AVM’s FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 has received a new firmware update to version 3.70. In addition to important bug fixes, the update adds a feature that particularly benefits owners of older electricity meters, which the device can now read as well.
What’s new in firmware 3.70?
With the software update, the Smart Energy 250 can also record consumption data from electricity meters that use older protocols. An overview of compatible meters is available in our review. A display issue affecting consumption and feed-in data has also been fixed, making evaluations more reliable.
The update is usually installed automatically. The FRITZ!Box checks every 48 hours and immediately after a restart for new firmware for DECT devices, then installs it on its own. Users who do not want to wait can start the update manually in the FRITZ!Box interface under “Smart Home” in “Devices and Groups” and update the Smart Energy 250 firmware directly.

What the FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 can do
The FRITZ!Smart Energy 250 measures electricity consumption and feed-in digitally via infrared directly at the electricity meter and transmits the data to the FRITZ!Box using DECT ULE. This wireless technology provides a particularly stable connection with a long range, even across several floors. The recorded data can be viewed conveniently in the FRITZ!Box interface, the FRITZ!App Smart Home or via MyFRITZ!Net, where it can be stored long-term if desired. Owners of photovoltaic systems benefit in particular because they can keep track of feed-in, self-consumption and possible load peaks at any time.

Overall, the update to version 3.70 is worthwhile because it expands device compatibility, improves data quality and enables more precise analysis of energy flows.
