Homematic IP is expanding its product range with the Switch Meter Cable* for outdoor use. The Switch Meter Cable can automate devices such as a pool pump, a conventional garden pump or outdoor lighting. The Homematic IP Switch Meter Cable – outdoor is approximately three meters long from its plug, through the switching unit, to the outdoor socket. Rated IP44, it is weatherproof and splash-resistant and can remain outdoors all year round. Its features include switching connected devices on and off and measuring the electrical power flowing through the cable. This allows power consumption to be viewed in the Homematic IP app using the integrated measurement data recording and visualization. In addition, the Switch Meter Cable acts as a range extender for the Homematic IP radio signal and can improve the wireless coverage of other Homematic IP devices.

Integration into the Homematic IP smart home
Like other Homematic IP devices, the Switch Meter Cable connects to an Access Point, enabling smart automation and interaction with other Homematic IP devices. For example, the cable can be switched on based on weather data from the Homematic IP Weather Sensor*. This makes smart garden irrigation possible: it runs only when there has not been enough rain, conserving resources. Another option is to use the Homematic IP Smart Home Light Sensor* to switch on outdoor lighting according to the measured brightness. As part of an alarm system, the Switch Meter Cable can also be combined with a motion detector* to switch on outdoor lighting and deter potential burglars.
