Homematic IP’s new alarm system has been activated in the Homematic IP app. The required app version 3.8.18 has been rolling out gradually to iOS and Android since mid-July. In addition to a redesigned security overview, the free update also brings improved searching in the device list.
Security functions in one central place
The new alarm system combines the smart home’s security-related areas in a single interface. The Homematic IP app displays connected devices, events and current status information together there.

This should enable users to see more quickly whether the integrated security components are working correctly and which monitoring mode is currently active. Homematic IP distinguishes between four states: Panic, Off, Home and Away.
The desired mode can be selected directly from the new view.
For emergencies, there is also a panic button that can trigger an alarm manually. The interface is complemented by an individually configurable emergency-call function, providing quick access to a previously defined contact or emergency option.
A test function also makes it possible to check the alarm and the configured components. Window and door contacts, motion detectors and alarm sirens can still be used together to monitor the home. The main new features are the clearer presentation and quicker access to the most important functions.
Homematic IP cameras are integrated
The new alarm system also prepares the integration of Homematic IP’s announced security cameras. According to the manufacturer, the cameras are expected to go on sale from the end of July 2026. Their video feeds will then be shown directly in the new alarm overview.

Users can choose between a list view and a tile view. Sensor states, events and camera images can therefore be accessed within the Homematic IP app. The exact functions supported by each camera model depend on the respective device.
Device search now recognizes short product designations
A second new feature in app version 3.8.18 concerns the device list. It can now also be searched using the short designations of Homematic IP products.

For example, anyone searching for “HmIP-PSM-2” can find the corresponding switching and metering plug more quickly. This should be particularly helpful in larger installations with numerous sensors and actuators.
Alarm system must be activated manually
Homematic IP began distributing app version 3.8.18 on July 15, 2026. The new alarm system was then activated for users on July 22. Because updates are rolled out gradually, it may take some time before the latest version is offered, depending on the device and app store.
Important: the new alarm system is not activated automatically. Users must initiate the change themselves in the Homematic IP app. All apps and clients in use must first be updated to the latest version.
