FAQ: questions about Homematic IP

Perimeter protection monitors the doors and windows of a house or apartment to detect unauthorized entry. Only sensors that protect the building’s outer shell, such as door and window sensors, are activated. In the standard configuration, indoor monitoring sensors such as motion detectors are not used. You can therefore move freely inside while the system raises an alarm as soon as the outer shell is breached without authorization.

Perimeter protection can detect and deter potential intruders at an early stage, helping to minimize the risk of burglary and improve security. It should therefore remain active whenever possible, except when you need to open a window for ventilation or go into the garden.

Tip: You can activate perimeter protection even when a window is open for ventilation. Monitoring is disabled only for that one window or door; all others remain protected against unauthorized opening.

Important: Resetting a device to factory settings deletes all settings! To restore a Homematic IP device to its factory settings, proceed as follows:

1. Remove the device from its mount, as with the Homematic IP Smart Home Smoke Alarm*, or remove the battery cover, as with the radiator thermostat*.
2. Remove one battery.
3. Reinsert the batteries according to the polarity markings while holding down the system button for four seconds, until the LED starts flashing orange rapidly.
4. Then release the system button.
5. Press the system button again for four seconds, until the LED lights up green.
6. Release the system button again to complete the factory reset.
7. The device restarts for approximately 30 seconds and can then be paired again using the Homematic IP app.
