SONOFF Orb: Smart wall switches and sockets with Matter or Zigbee

With the SONOFF Orb wall switches and wall sockets, Sonoff is bringing a new generation of smart flush-mounted components to the European market. The range is designed for European Type E and Type F (Schuko) systems and is permanently installed in a standard flush-mounted box.

Depending on the model, SONOFF uses Matter over Wi-Fi or Zigbee, covering a variety of smart home architectures.

SONOFF Orb with Matter at a glance

The Matter version communicates via Wi-Fi and supports cross-vendor integration with platforms such as Home Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Apple Home. This creates an open, interoperable home network without proprietary restrictions. A Thread Border Router is required for the Matter connection.

The core features include convenient remote control via an app or voice assistant, flexible schedules and automations for automated operation, as well as precise energy monitoring with detailed consumption analysis. Historical consumption data can be evaluated in charts, providing a reliable basis for analysis.

The system also includes integrated electricity cost tracking: once your individual electricity tariff has been entered, it automatically calculates the costs incurred and clearly visualises consumption trends.

For safety, the sockets, for example, feature intelligent overload protection. If defined current, voltage or power limits are exceeded, the system automatically disconnects the power supply, protecting both the installation and connected devices. The socket also monitors the charge level of connected devices and can switch off automatically when they are fully charged, helping to save energy and preserve batteries.

SONOFF Orb with Zigbee at a glance

The wall switches and sockets are also available in a Zigbee version. They communicate over a Zigbee mesh network and can, for example, be integrated into the smart home using a Zigbee dongle together with Home Assistant.

Zigbee is particularly suitable for larger installations with many devices, as its mesh design ensures stable wireless connections.

With a suitable Matter or platform bridge, the Zigbee version can also connect to systems such as Amazon Alexa, Google Home or Apple Home.
