With the Homematic IP Door Lock Drive Pro*, eQ-3 AG is launching a revised version of its smart door lock drive*. The Pro version not only adds new functions such as an exceptionally quiet whisper mode to the existing system, but also places a greater emphasis on security and everyday usability. In addition to a slimmer design, the device is available in several colours and blends discreetly into different living environments.

What is Homematic IP?

The system is developed by eQ-3 AG and its Homematic IP platform, one of Europe’s established smart home systems. Its aim is to connect different areas of the home centrally, from heating and lighting to security and access control.

Communication takes place via an 868 MHz radio protocol with a central control unit. The system is controlled through the Homematic IP app, which can be used both on a smartphone and on a smartwatch. Particularly notable are the wide range of compatible devices and the flexible operating options, both cloud-based and local.

What is the Homematic IP Door Lock Drive Pro?

The Door Lock Drive Pro is mounted on the inside of the door and turns the existing key using a motor. The mechanical lock cylinder remains unchanged. The device is available in four colour variants: white and anthracite, each also with a silver front.
 

This approach offers a clear advantage: the existing door does not need to be modified; it is simply enhanced with smart functions. At the same time, the familiar mechanical security remains in place, an important difference from solutions that replace the entire cylinder. The door lock drive is also fully integrated into the Homematic IP ecosystem and can be seamlessly combined with other components.

Convenient access control in everyday use

The greatest benefit becomes apparent in daily use. The front door can be opened, unlatched and locked without standing directly in front of it. Whether from the sofa or while away, it is controlled conveniently through the app.

Alternative control options are also available, including voice control, a PIN-enabled keypad* or a keyring remote control*. This creates a flexible access solution that adapts to different everyday situations.

Users can also keep track of everything at all times. The current door status—whether it is open or closed, locked or unlocked—can always be viewed in the app. This transparency improves security and reduces common uncertainty in everyday life.

Installation: Easy retrofitting

A key advantage of the system is its comparatively simple installation. Several mounting options are available:

• On a lock cylinder that protrudes slightly, allowing the drive to be mounted on it.
• Using existing screw holes next to the cylinder.
• Bonding it to the door; this option is particularly quick to implement, although later removal may require a little more effort.

Because of the compact design, the existing key may need to be adapted, for example by shortening it or using a suitable key for a thumb-turn cylinder. Overall, however, installation remains manageable even for users with less technical experience.

Greater security through integrated sensors

Several sensors continuously monitor the condition of the door and provide additional security information. The system detects whether the door is open or closed, registers vibrations and can indicate possible tampering attempts. This data is processed in real time and issued as a notification when required. The front door is therefore not only controlled, but actively integrated into the home’s security concept. One particularly practical detail is that the door lock drive recognises when the door is still open and prevents it from being locked. It may seem minor, but it avoids common everyday mistakes.

Automation as the key to convenience

In addition to control, automation plays a central role. The door lock drive can be configured to perform certain tasks independently. These include automatic locking after a set period or at specified times, such as in the evening. Such functions not only improve convenience, but also increase everyday security. More complex scenarios can also be created in combination with other Homematic IP components. When leaving the house, for example, the door can be locked while the alarm system is activated and the heating adjusted at the same time.
