The IKEA LILJEBAGGE radiator thermostat is official: IKEA has listed its new smart radiator thermostat in the Swedish online store for 199 Swedish kronor – the equivalent of around €18. The model supports Matter over Thread and is designed to control the temperature in each room individually.
Back in April, we reported on the first signs of an IKEA smart radiator thermostat with Matter. At the time, the name and product images had only appeared in the IKEA app. With the publication of the official Swedish product page, its price, features and technical specifications are now known.
Price and availability: 199 SEK in Sweden
The IKEA LILJEBAGGE radiator thermostat is available from IKEA’s Swedish online store for 199 SEK. Depending on the exchange rate, this is equivalent to approximately €18. Its low price could make the thermostat particularly attractive to households looking to equip several radiators with smart controls.
The thermostat is not yet listed by IKEA Germany. There is therefore no confirmed launch date or retail price for Germany at this time.
What can the IKEA LILJEBAGGE radiator thermostat do?
The IKEA LILJEBAGGE radiator thermostat is fitted to a radiator valve, where it controls the flow of hot water. The desired temperature can be set directly on the device using its display and plus and minus buttons.
The temperature can also be adjusted remotely through a compatible app. Scheduled scenes can be created as well. IKEA gives examples such as automatically lowering the temperature at night and heating the room again in the morning. Different target temperatures can also be set for bedrooms, living rooms and home offices.
According to IKEA, demand-based room-by-room temperature control can reduce energy consumption. However, the manufacturer does not specify or guarantee a particular level of savings. The actual results will depend on factors including the building, insulation, heating system and user behaviour.
Matter over Thread and IKEA DIRIGERA
The smart thermostat communicates via Matter over Thread. Thread provides the energy-efficient wireless network, while Matter is intended to enable cross-brand integration with different smart home systems.
A Thread Border Router is required for smartphone control. IKEA mentions its DIRIGERA hub as one example. However, DIRIGERA is not mandatory: another compatible Matter controller with an integrated Thread Border Router can also provide the connection.
According to IKEA, LILJEBAGGE can be used with systems from Amazon, Apple, Google, Homey and Samsung, among others. The available features may vary depending on the Matter controller and app being used.
Frost protection, valve maintenance and offline operation
A frost-protection mode allows a small amount of heat to circulate automatically at low temperatures, helping to prevent pipes from freezing. LILJEBAGGE also moves the radiator valve regularly to help prevent limescale deposits and stop the valve pin from becoming stuck.
The thermostat continues to operate even without an internet connection. It maintains the most recently selected temperature and can still be controlled directly on the device. Only remote control via the internet is unavailable while the connection is offline.
Two AA/HR6 batteries are required and are not included. IKEA recommends rechargeable LADDA batteries with a capacity of 2,450 mAh and states a typical battery life of approximately 18 months when using two new batteries.

Conclusion: Plenty of smart home technology at a low price
The IKEA LILJEBAGGE radiator thermostat combines a remarkably low price with Matter over Thread, app control, schedules, frost protection and local offline operation. It could be an interesting addition for households that already use DIRIGERA or another Thread-enabled Matter system.
A future hands-on review will need to show whether its temperature regulation, operating noise and battery life are equally convincing in everyday use. For now, it remains to be seen when IKEA will offer the thermostat outside Sweden and how much it will cost in other markets.
