In our articles, we show how the integration works, what functions are available in Home Assistant, and what our everyday experiences have been.
Setting up MYGGSPRAY in Home Assistant
Adding Matter devices is currently done via the Home Assistant Companion App on the smartphone.
After inserting the batteries, the sensor starts automatically and is located 15 minutes in pairing mode. The timer restarts if the battery is briefly removed. If the sensor is already connected to another system, there is a button in the battery compartment that can be used to reset the sensor.
Step by step
- Open in the app: Settings → Add to Home Assistant → Add device → Add Matter device
- New Select and scan the QR code or enter the pairing code manually.
- With multiple border routers, the desired result Thread network choose
After a few seconds, the MYGGSPRAY appears as a new device in Home Assistant.
MYGGSPRAY in Home Assistant: Features and Data
The device information will Firmware version, Hardware version and the Connection type (matter) displayed. The sensor overview shows whether it is currently Motion detected will and which Brightness value is measured.
The status changes between Free and Proven. The label can be customized in Home Assistant if the attribute Occupancy for example, it is changed to movement.
Under configuration It will indicate whether the firmware is up to date. The area diagnosis provides information about Battery charge level, Battery voltage and Battery type (AAA). In addition, there is a Identify function available, where the status LED lights up.
The sensor can be used directly Automations, scenes, or scripts The sensor will be assigned. If the sensor is integrated into actions, these will also be displayed here accordingly. activity Shows recent activity related to the sensor.
Some parameters can be displayed in detail and as a diagram or as Activity history over time represent.
Practical application: Automation with MYGGSPRAY
In the test, the MYGGSPRAY was used with a IKEA KAJPLATS LED E27 Combined. When motion is detected, the light switches on and automatically switches off again when no motion is detected. Implementation in Home Assistant was completed within a few minutes using two automations. The duration, i.e., how long the status remains active, is determined by the automation settings. Motion detected The signal was sent but could not be adjusted. In the test, the light switched off after approximately... 30 seconds without further movement.
Conclusion
The IKEA MYGGSPRAY motion detector is a compact and versatile Matter sensor, which is particularly characterized by the Easy integration with Home Assistant It is distinguished by its many features. It is suitable for a wide range of indoor and protected outdoor applications and provides a solid foundation for automatic lighting and device controls.
An additional advantage is the attractive price, which is below comparable solutions from manufacturers such as Homematic or Aqara.

My name is Christian, and I founded this blog in 2024. I'm a trained communications electronics technician, a tech enthusiast, and a smart home aficionado with many years of experience in the field of networked household appliances. I passionately follow current developments and regularly test new products to provide clear insights and practical recommendations.
Hello, if you are interested in more IKEA sensors, these articles also offer a way to win them: https://chrissmart.de/ikea-timmerflotte-im-test-neuer-matter-sensor/ and https://chrissmart.de/ikea-myggbett-im-test-matter-tuer-und-fenstersensor/
Today I ordered three sensors/motion detectors to implement lighting automations via Home Assistant. I'm curious about the response time (when is motion detected, how quickly is this information transmitted to Home Assistant, and how quickly the programmed automation then activates). If the performance is satisfactory, I'm considering additional integrations.
Congratulations Helut, you've won the IKEA MYGGSPRAY motion sensor! Please send me your address to info@chrissmart.de. Regards, Chris
