Homematic IP has the new alarm system in its Homematic IP app The feature has been activated. The required app version 3.8.18 has been gradually rolled out for iOS and Android since mid-July. In addition to a redesigned security overview, the free update also includes an improved search function in the device list.
Security features in one central location
The new alarm system consolidates all security-relevant aspects of the smart home into a single interface. The Homematic IP app displays connected devices, events, and current status information in one place.

This should allow users to more quickly identify whether the integrated security components are functioning correctly and which monitoring mode is currently active. Homematic IP distinguishes between four states: Panic, Off, Present, and Absent.
The desired mode can be selected directly via the new view.
For emergencies, a panic button is also available, allowing an alarm to be triggered manually. The interface is complemented by a customizable emergency call function, ensuring quick access to a pre-defined contact or emergency call option.
A test function also allows you to check the alarm and the configured components. Window and door contacts, motion detectors, and alarm sirens can still be used together to monitor your home. The main new features are the clearer interface and faster access to the most important functions.
Homematic IP cameras are integrated
The new alarm system also prepares the way for the integration of the announced Security cameras Homematic IP is introducing new cameras. According to the manufacturer, the cameras will be available from the end of July 2026. Their videos will then be displayed directly in the new alarm overview.

Users can choose between a list view and a tile view. Sensor states, events, and camera images can then be accessed within the Homematic app. The exact functions supported by each camera model depend on the specific device.
Device search now recognizes product abbreviations.
A second new feature in app version 3.8.18 concerns the device list. This can now also be searched by the short names of Homematic IP products.

For example, someone searching for "HmIP-PSM-2" will find the corresponding Switching/measuring socket Find them faster. This should be particularly helpful in larger installations where numerous sensors and actuators are set up.
The alarm system must be activated manually.
Homematic IP began distributing app version 3.8.18 on July 15, 2026. The new alarm system was subsequently activated for users on July 22. Since updates are rolled out gradually, it may take some time for the latest version to become available, depending on the device and app store.
Important: The new alarm system will not activate automatically. Users must initiate the switchover themselves in the Homematic IP app. Beforehand, all used apps and clients must be updated to the latest version.
