Shelly expands its wall display series with the new Shelly Wall Display X1i. The compact control panel is equipped with a square 4-inch touchscreen and is designed to enable centralized control of lighting, heating, air conditioning, scenes, and other components in the smart home.
Square 4-inch display with touch operation
The capacitive touchscreen has a resolution of 720 x 720 pixels and supports input with up to five fingers. The home screen can be customized, allowing direct access to frequently used devices, scenes, and functions. A Rockchip RK3326-S quad-core processor with a clock speed of up to 1.5 GHz provides the necessary performance. It also features 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of flash storage. Android 11 is the operating system. Network connectivity is provided via dual-band Wi-Fi 6 in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bands. The display also supports Bluetooth 5.0. Local integration options include HTTP, RPC, MQTT, webhooks, and a dedicated web interface. According to the manufacturer, Shelly Cloud is not required.

The display has an integrated 1-watt speaker for notifications and alert tones. Bluetooth and Sonos speakers can also be connected. Music playback, track skipping, and volume can then be controlled via the touchscreen.
Interchangeable base with integrated relay
A special feature of the Wall Display X1i is its interchangeable power supply base. The included version has a switchable output and an integrated relay designed for a maximum of 5 amps at up to 240 volts AC. This allows the panel to, for example, replace an existing light switch and simultaneously control the connected electrical circuit.

For installations with two circuits, Shelly offers an optional base station with two separate outputs. As an alternative to in-wall power supply, the display can also be powered via a USB-C connection. For permanent installation, a live and neutral wire are required. Since this involves working with mains voltage, the manufacturer states that installation must only be carried out by a qualified electrician.
Proximity sensor instead of integrated room climate sensor
The Wall Display X1i features a brightness sensor and a proximity sensor. When a person approaches the panel, the display can be automatically activated. Shelly also advertises gesture control, but has not yet described its specific functions in detail. A temperature or humidity sensor is not integrated. Therefore, the X1i requires an external sensor for room climate control. Shelly lists the BLU H&T ZB and the BLU H&T Display ZB as compatible models.
This distinguishes the X1i from the previous 4-inch wall display, which could measure temperature and humidity itself. The new model offers more advanced wireless technology, a proximity sensor, and an interchangeable relay base.
Home Assistant is supported
Besides its own Smart Control app, Shelly also lists Home Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings as compatible platforms. Local interfaces such as MQTT and HTTP generally facilitate integration into other smart home systems.
