IKEA MYGGBETT Update 1.1.6: Better Thread Connection

The IKEA MYGGBETT Update 1.1.6 is intended to improve the Thread connection of the door and window sensor. The new firmware has been listed in IKEA’s testnet since September 22, 2026. Anyone hoping for a more reliable connection will therefore want to keep an eye on this version. However, it has not yet been released through the regular channel and remains test firmware.

We previously reported on the MYGGBETT firmware update to version 1.1.4. Now another update follows, with the goal of improving connectivity.

What Does the IKEA MYGGBETT Update 1.1.6 Bring?

According to IKEA, firmware 1.1.6 is designed to deliver an improved Thread connection. This is an important feature for a door and window sensor. If opening a window is supposed to turn down the heating, the status change must be communicated reliably to the smart home system. The same applies to an alert when a door remains open for a longer period.

However, IKEA does not specify which connection issues the new firmware fixes. The company does not mention particular Thread Border Routers or individual smart home platforms. Faster response times or longer battery life also cannot be inferred from the brief release note. Whether version 1.1.6 makes a noticeable difference will therefore have to be seen in everyday use.

Firmware 1.1.6 Is Initially Available via the Testnet

As of September 26, 2026, IKEA still lists version 1.1.4 in the regular release channel. The new firmware 1.1.6, by contrast, is listed in the testnet.

If Home Assistant, for example, still shows 1.1.4 as the current firmware, this is not necessarily an error. The IKEA MYGGBETT Update 1.1.6 is distributed through a separate test channel. IKEA has not yet announced a date for the regular release.
