Firmware version 1.9.15 is now available for the IKEA BILRESA dual-button remote control. This is the first officially released firmware update for IKEA’s new Matter remote. Users report that the update is already being distributed through various systems and can be installed via Home Assistant, among others.
BILRESA Update to Matter 1.4
The most important change is support for Matter 1.4. According to the Connectivity Standards Alliance listing (CSA), the remote with firmware 1.9.15 now fully complies with the current Matter 1.4 specification.
Official release notes from IKEA are not currently available. The community therefore mainly classifies the update as a stability update.
Known limitations remain
Despite the new firmware, not all known issues have been resolved. Users continue to report incorrect battery level readings when using rechargeable NiMH batteries. Fully charged batteries are sometimes shown at only around 45 percent. This behavior was already known from earlier firmware versions.
Multi-click support also remains unchanged. The remote still officially supports double clicks only. Extended support for triple clicks was not introduced with the update.
Update already available in Home Assistant
Several users report that the firmware update is already offered in Home Assistant. In some ecosystems, such as Samsung SmartThings, rollout does not yet appear to have fully started.
