The Navimow i2 AWD: All-wheel drive robotic lawnmower for demanding gardens

Homematic IP

With the Navimow i2 AWD, Segway is launching a robotic lawnmower specifically designed for complex and uneven gardens. Building on the success of its predecessors, the i105 and i108, the concept has been further refined. While many autonomous robotic lawnmowers are designed for flat lawns, the Navimow i2 AWD is specifically engineered for more demanding gardens. This includes, in particular, steeper slopes, slippery surfaces, and the reliable detection of obstacles using AI sensors.

All-wheel drive and off-road capability

The key feature of the i2 AWD is its all-wheel drive. This consists of two main drive wheels and an additional driven and steerable rear wheel, significantly increasing the robotic lawnmower's maneuverability. This design enables precise 180° turns on the spot without damaging the turf. The combination of all-wheel drive and electronic stability control ensures high traction, even on challenging terrain. It can reliably handle inclines of up to 45°, making the robot particularly suitable for slopes. Another advantage is the adaptive drive: the system activates all-wheel drive only when needed, reducing energy consumption and increasing efficiency.

Mowing performance and operating behavior

The Navimow i2 AWD operates with a cutting width of 18 cm and an adjustable cutting height of 2 to 6 cm. With a noise level of approximately 59 dB(A), it is among the quieter models in its class and can be used even in noise-sensitive environments. The battery life ranges from about 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the model, with a comparable charging time. The cutting system is based on a rotating cutting disc with five free-floating blades. This design improves the shredding of the clippings, resulting in finer mulch that remains on the lawn and is more quickly returned to the soil's nutrient cycle.

Wireless navigation and AI integration

A key feature of the Navimow i2 AWD is the elimination of a traditional boundary wire. Instead, the robotic lawnmower uses the so-called EFLS™ (Exact Fusion Location System), which combines network RTK (satellite-based positioning) and camera-based navigation. This enables positioning accurate to within centimeters, without the need for a boundary wire or a separate RTK antenna in the garden.

The robot can operate entirely without an additional RTK antenna, relying on network RTK if this service is available in the respective region. If not, the included RTK antenna can be used.

Setup is done via app-based mapping, where the robot is manually guided along the lawn boundaries. Alternatively, an automatic "one-click mapping" option is available, further reducing installation effort. Additionally, the robotic lawnmower recognizes over 200 different types of obstacles – including animals, tools, and toys – and navigates around them in real time.

Intelligent features and connectivity

The Navimow i2 AWD supports modern communication standards such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and 4G, ensuring a continuous connection to the app. The 4G service is initially free but must be renewed for a fee after the included period; however, it enables features such as enhanced theft protection.

In addition, the system features virtual boundaries and zone management, adaptive weather control for automatic adjustment of mowing times (e.g. in rain), an IP66 protection class for use in adverse weather conditions, and easy cleaning.

Additionally, the robotic lawnmower can be integrated into smart home systems such as Alexa, Google Home, and others. Integrate Home Assistant.

Model variants and technical details

The Navimow i2 AWD is available in the i205 AWD, i206 AWD, i208 AWD, and i210 AWD variants. The recommended area coverage ranges from approximately 500 to 1,000 m², depending on the model. The i208 AWD and larger models use a 5.1 Ah battery, while the smaller variants are equipped with a 2.55 Ah battery.

Conclusion

The Navimow i2 AWD is a technologically advanced robotic lawnmower for demanding gardens. Its strengths lie in the combination of all-wheel drive, intelligent navigation, and simple, wireless installation. It offers significant advantages over classic models like the i105 or i108, especially on slopes or uneven terrain. Minor weaknesses, such as its edge-cutting capabilities, do not detract from its status as one of the top models in its category.
