Several Matter smoke detectors from Sensereo are now officially available for Home Assistant. The manufacturer has joined the “Works with Home Assistant” program. The certified devices are the Sensereo MS-1 smoke detector and the Sensereo MSC-1, which also detects carbon monoxide. Both devices can be integrated locally into Home Assistant via Matter-over-Thread.
This adds more smart smoke detectors to Home Assistant without relying on Wi-Fi or a manufacturer-specific cloud. Integration requires an up-to-date Home Assistant installation and a Thread border router to connect the smoke detectors.

The main advantage is local processing. When smoke is detected, Home Assistant can respond and trigger predefined automations, such as push notifications, switching on lights or opening window shutters. At the same time, the devices continue to work as conventional smoke detectors independently of the smart home. If Home Assistant or the Thread network fails, the smoke detector still sounds the alarm directly.
The MSC-1 is particularly interesting for households that want to monitor carbon monoxide as well as smoke. It combines smoke and CO detection and also features a display showing the carbon monoxide concentration.
