Navimow H5 Pro Unveiled: EdgeMaestro Mows Right to the Lawn Edge

Just a few days after the first teaser, Segway* has unveiled the Navimow H5 Pro. We now know what lies behind the slogan “Crafted to the Millimetre”: an extendable mowing arm that brings the cutting deck right up to walls, flower beds and other lawn edges.

Many technical details were still unknown in my first look at the Navimow H5 Pro. Alongside the EdgeMaestro arm, the H5 Pro features an upgraded all-wheel-drive system, navigation combining LiDAR, cameras and Network RTK, as well as a thermal imaging sensor designed to detect small animals. However, several important specifications are still missing.

Navimow H5 Pro unveiled: the key highlights

Here are the seven most important new features of the Navimow H5 Pro:

  1. The EdgeMaestro mowing arm extends the cutting deck sideways by up to 7.7 centimetres.
  2. The same cutting deck is used both on the lawn and along its edges.
  3. EdgeSense 2.0 controls the arm along straight, soft and irregular boundaries.
  4. The Xero-Turn all-wheel-drive system is designed to tackle slopes of up to 80 per cent.
  5. It should be able to cross uneven ground and obstacles up to six centimetres high.
  6. EFLS Tri-Fusion combines LiDAR, cameras and dynamic Network RTK.
  7. VisionFence 360° supplements optical detection with a thermal infrared sensor.

Navimow specifies a noise level of at least 58 dB(A) while edge mowing. However, the company has yet to announce an official price, launch date, recommended lawn area, cutting width or battery life. For now, most of the technical details come from Segway Navimow’s press release.

Navimow H5 Pro: EdgeMaestro reaches the lawn edge

Even robotic mowers with highly accurate navigation face a design-related problem: the cutting deck normally sits several centimetres inside the housing. When travelling alongside a wall or fence, the mower therefore cannot move far enough outwards. A narrow strip of grass remains and must later be tidied up with a grass trimmer.

Navimow H5 Pro: EdgeMaestro reaches right to the lawn edge

Software-based features can guide a robotic mower closer to a boundary. The Edge Sense update for the Navimow i2 LiDAR Pro, for example, shows how this has worked until now. Software alone cannot eliminate the distance between the edge of the housing and the cutting disc, though.

The H5 Pro therefore goes one mechanical step further. While the mower is moving, its EdgeMaestro arm shifts the regular cutting deck outwards by up to 7.7 centimetres. Unlike a separate edge trimmer, it uses the same cutting system both across the lawn and around the perimeter. This is intended to let the robotic mower cut right to the lawn edge without leaving a visible strip behind.

According to Navimow, the arm has a floating mount and can move in several directions. This should allow it to follow undulations in the ground and yield on side contact with objects such as garden lights.

A small rake-like component also draws blades of grass at the edge inwards towards the cutter. Two guide rollers are intended to prevent the arm from rubbing too firmly against walls or other solid boundaries. EdgeSense 2.0 adjusts its position while mowing to suit different situations, from straight patio edges to curved flower beds and softer transitions.

It sounds like a well-considered solution. Whether the H5 Pro really can mow everywhere without leaving a visible strip will have to be proven in the garden. Loose stones, roots, lawn sprinklers and densely planted bed edges are all likely to be demanding for a moving mechanism.

Xero-Turn all-wheel drive for steep gardens

The EdgeMaestro arm may be the most striking new feature, but the running gear is equally sophisticated. The Navimow H5 Pro has four individually controlled wheel-hub motors, eliminating the need for conventional drive shafts and a mechanical differential.

The Xero-Turn all-wheel-drive system is designed to cope with gradients of up to 80 per cent, or 38.6 degrees. That is considerably higher than the 55 per cent claimed by Segway for the Navimow i2 LiDAR Pro with LiDAR and all-wheel drive.

Rear-wheel suspension should help the wheels maintain contact on uneven ground. Navimow also refers to obstacles, depressions and gravel paths with height differences of up to six centimetres.

When steering, the system can switch between turning on the spot and taking a more car-like curve. This should keep tight areas accessible without unnecessarily tearing at the turf during turns.

LiDAR, cameras and Network RTK work together

The Navimow H5 Pro uses the EFLS Tri-Fusion system to find its way around. It combines three different technologies:

  • LiDAR maps the three-dimensional surroundings.
  • Cameras help classify paths, lawn areas and obstacles visually.
  • Network RTK supplies precise positioning data through a network of reference stations.

The robotic mower is intended to select the most suitable combination automatically depending on its surroundings. This could help when trees or buildings restrict satellite reception while purely camera-based navigation also reaches its limits.

The announcement does not say whether an additional local RTK antenna will be offered or required for the H5 Pro. Navimow has not provided specific details about the necessary mobile network access or any potential ongoing costs either.

Thermal sensor aims to protect hedgehogs and other small animals

VisionFence 360° combines three AI cameras, LiDAR and a thermal infrared sensor for obstacle detection. The sensor is intended to recognise the heat signatures of people and animals even in low light. If the mower detects a possible animal, it should stop the blades and alter its route.

Despite the thermal sensor, the H5 Pro should not be regarded as a licence for unattended mowing at night. Hedgehogs often curl up when threatened instead of fleeing. The Animal Welfare Commissioner for the German state of Brandenburg therefore also recommends using robotic mowers only during the day and, where possible, under supervision. No detection technology can cover every situation with complete certainty.

Navimow H5 Pro price and release date

Segway Navimow has not yet announced an official price or release date. Details such as the recommended lawn area, battery capacity, mowing and charging times, cutting width, cutting height, dimensions and weight are also still missing.

Citing informed sources, Golem reports a possible price of more than €2,000. Navimow has not confirmed this figure, so it should not yet be treated as the final retail price. The H5 Pro could potentially go on sale around CES in January 2027. Whether pre-orders will open then or deliveries will actually begin remains unclear.

The Navimow H5 Pro can be seen at IFA 2026 from 4 to 8 September in Hall 9, stand H9-121. The latest information about the trade-show appearance is available on Navimow’s official IFA page.

Verdict on the Navimow H5 Pro

For me, EdgeMaestro is the H5 Pro’s most exciting new feature. Navimow is not merely trying to improve an existing edge-mowing function through software; it is tackling the underlying mechanical problem: the cutting deck can move beyond the previous limits of the housing.

That is also where the biggest unanswered question lies. An additional moving component must withstand damp clippings, soil, dust, stones and irregular boundaries over the long term. The decisive factor will therefore be not only the initial cutting result, but also reliability after a full gardening season.

Too much information is still missing to assess the H5 Pro conclusively. Without figures for lawn coverage, the battery and cutting width, it is difficult to judge what garden size the model is actually suitable for and whether the anticipated premium price would be justified.
