Several Matter smoke detectors are now officially available for Home Assistant through Sensereo. The manufacturer has been accepted into the "Works with Home Assistant" program. The Sensereo MS-1 smoke detector and the Sensereo MSC-1, which also detects carbon monoxide, have been certified. Both devices can be integrated locally into Home Assistant via Matter-over-Thread.
This allows additional smart smoke detectors to be integrated into Home Assistant, which do not rely on Wi-Fi or a manufacturer-specific cloud. Integration requires a current Home Assistant installation and a Threaded Border router to connect to the smoke detectors.

The main advantage lies in local processing. If smoke is detected, Home Assistant can react and trigger pre-configured automations. These could include push notifications, turning on lights, or opening blinds. At the same time, the devices remain functional as traditional smoke detectors, independent of the smart home system. If Home Assistant or the Thread network fails, the warning will still be issued directly by the smoke detector.
The MSC-1 is particularly interesting for households that want to monitor not only smoke but also carbon monoxide. This model combines smoke and CO detection and also features a display showing the carbon monoxide concentration.
