Home Assistant 2026.3 – The most important new features
1. Robot vacuum cleaners can clean specific rooms.
One of the biggest new features in Home Assistant 2026.3 is the new action „"Clean Area"“ for compatible robot vacuums. This allows users to send a robot to specific areas of the home instead of always starting a full cleaning. Devices supported include, among others: Matter, as well as models from Roborock and Ecovacs. The feature uses existing room definitions within Home Assistant. This eliminates the need to use manufacturer-specific room IDs.
2. Improvements to the Energy Dashboard
That too Energy Dashboard Version 2026.3 significantly expanded the app. New fields display important consumption data directly in the overview, providing greater transparency regarding current resource consumption in the smart home. Electricity consumption, gas flow, and water consumption are now displayed in real time. A new Sankey diagram (a graphical representation of flow rates) for water consumption clearly visualizes distribution and usage. Additionally, the settings structure has been revised and divided into separate tabs for electricity, gas, and water.

3. More stable automations with "Continue on error"„
Home Assistant is particularly known for its powerful automations. New versions further improve their stability. The new option „Continue on error“ is now directly available in the graphical automation editor. This allows an automation to continue even if a single action fails. For example, if a push notification fails, subsequent actions such as sending an email or turning on a light will still be executed.”.
4. Wake-Word Detection for Android (experimental)
Another highlight of the update is the Wake word detection for the Android app from Home Assistant. This means the voice assistant Assist can now be activated directly via a wake word – even when the smartphone is locked. Speech processing takes place locally on the device, so no audio data needs to be transmitted to a cloud. This allows the smartphone to act as a so-called voice satellite in the smart home, relaying voice commands directly to Home Assistant. However, because the microphone is constantly listening for the wake word, battery consumption may increase. For this reason, the feature is currently marked as experimental.
